2017

March 16, 2017. It was a safety pin day. As an artist and archivist, waking up to the news this morning that the proposed federal budget plan would cut funding for the NEA and the NEH was devastating on many levels. Selfishly, I thought of what this means for my professional future; also the future of my friends and colleagues; and for those who have not yet discovered the power that can be found in the visual arts, the performing arts, at museums, at libraries, and a within a multitude of other organizations who are funded by these government branches. Beyond that, the United States is at risk of losing funding for Social Security, housing and health services, the environment...and sadly the list goes on. I've woken up to unthinkable news since last November and I've been trying to stay optimistic. To quote another member of the arts community “it's time for action mode”. Please, everyone, let's all be in action mode and protect each other and all that we hold sacred as a society. We've come so far, let's not go backwards now. #1yearofstitches #wip #embroidery #embroideryart #handembroidery #contemporaryembroidery #bordado #broderie #embroideryinstaguild #stitches #frenchknot #orange #doodle #threaddoodle #deatil #deatilshot #safetypin #savethenea #savetheneh #notmypresident #craftivism #thursday #thursdaynight #thread #fiberart #sewing #textiles #textileart #art #needleandthread
