2017

April 14, 15, 16, 2017. Last Friday I was discussing my approach to this project and specifically why I chose to use social media as my platform. I actually don't particularly like social media because it tends to get me down, it's difficult not to compare yourself to what you're seeing. I felt like all I was saw were these perfect finished pieces and that my work was no where near that caliber. One of the reasons I embarked on this project is because I wanted to be honest about my artistic process; I wanted to show my mistakes and show that some days I don't do anything of merit, but furthermore I didn't want to get mad at myself about this. I'm a perfectionist by nature and it's been difficult to overcome my fear of mistakes, but I think this project truly has enabled me to be kinder to myself and embrace imperfections. So, I took a break last weekend and I'm not mad at myself for not stitching for three days. I don't feel like I have to catch up, I'm just ready to continue the process. My break wasn't totally planned. We took our first van camping trip of the year and met up with friends in the mountains. I could have stitched, I even had my embroidery with me, but I was busy chatting, hiking, hanging by the fire, being on the lookout for wildlife and enjoying how green everything is now. And the thing is, that's all a part of my process too. #1yearofstitches #wip #embroidery #embroideryart #handembroidery #contemporaryembroidery #bordado #broderie #embroideryinstaguild #stitches #red #doodle #threaddoodle #deatil #deatilshot #imperfect #takeabreak #process #friday #saturday #sunday #thread #fiberart #sewing #textiles #textileart #art #needleandthread
